Infants Information

My name is Ruth Martin and I am the Head of the British Infant Section within Taipei European School.

I am now in my sixth year with TES, having worked in a Local Education Authority in England for 27 years. I joined the Local Authority as a newly qualified teacher and left as a Headteacher, working in a total of 5 very different schools. I eventually decided that I would like to try working in the International Education system and here I am!!

I have been married to Nick for 32 years and we have 2 children-Josh who is 27 and Sophie who is 24. Josh is working in England as a carpenter while Sophie is training to become a teacher.

The British Infant Section here at TES has a Nursery with 4 Registration Groups within it, 4 Reception classes, 4 Year 1 classes and 4 Year 2 classes. The Nursery caters for 3-4 year olds, Reception for 4-5 year olds, Year 1 for 5-6 and Year 2 for 6-7. All year groups follow the National Curriculum for England but we have worked hard to make the curriculum relevant for children living and attending school in Taipei.

I am extremely proud of the education my teachers provide, they work tirelessly to provide a curriculum that is fun and relevant. The classrooms are large, well resourced and bright and stimulating. Each class has access to an interactive whiteboard, and all classes have a full time Learning Support Assistant. The Infant School also has a very dedicated team of English as an Additional Language teachers who support children whose English is their second if not third language.

We believe in providing for the whole child, we pride ourselves in how quickly we get to know the children, and how we plan to meet all the needs of all the children. There is a full British Infant Section Philosophy Statement on our website, and this drives everything we do.
