Welcome to the Taipei European British Secondary and High School

A Welcome Message from the Head of British Secondary and High School

On 26th May 2012, our ninth graduating class of H4 students completed their education at our school. Since opening its doors in the summer of 2002, over three hundred TES graduates have gone on to higher education in many different parts of the world. TES has alumni studying in prestigious universities such as Cambridge, Stanford, University College of London, Imperial College, London School of Economics, The Sorbonne, Brown, Michigan, Washington, USC, UBC, Toronto, Ottawa, Australian National University, Melbourne, UNSW, Singapore, Hong Kong and here at NTU in Taipei.

TES grows in stature, maturity and quality as a leading provider of education here in Taipei, regionally and the world every year. A rapidly increasing number of universities from around the world seek to visit our school to speak to our future graduates. Over the past year, the successful efforts and achievements of our students in their academic studies, on the sporting field and in the wider curriculum has again produced many highlights - successful sporting teams locally and regionally in inter-school competitions, entertaining musical and theatre productions in school, performances at high profile community events by individuals and groups and placements in leading Universities around the world.

While our history is very short, we have much to be proud of as a school community. The European Secondary Campus on Yangmingshan continues to expand, with additional specialist facilities for Science, ICT, Art, Music and Drama, library, physical education and sports, general teaching areas and cafeteria facilities. We currently have over five hundred students studying at the campus..

Our sport teams, the TES "Typhoons", participate in Basketball, Football, Softball, Volleyball and Cross Country on Island, as well as in two regional competitions for FOBISSEA. Our stature as a competitive sporting school has been demonstrated by the high number of winning and placing teams in these competitions.

Our efforts towards the TABITHA House building project in Cambodia continues to exceed expectations each year and we will continue to broaden our service outreach in the future. TES students continue to participate in the international Model United Nations in Singapore (and locally in Taichung), the International Award (Duke of Edinburgh) for Young People and other competitions in Taiwan and overseas.

The continuing success of TES can be attributed to the hard work of the staff and a team effort. My thanks to the teaching and administrative staff in the British Secondary and High School Section who give their time outside of their classroom teaching to add the extra elements to each student’s educational experience at TES. We also extend our sincere thanks to the Section Council, the parent support groups and other members of our school community and the wider community who contribute towards our continuing development and success.

The nature of international education is that many students move on to join other schools in many parts of the world over the summer and through the school year. We trust that TES students will take with them fond memories of their time at TES when they leave. We hope that many of our past students will come back to visit us in the future or keep in touch with us through friends they have made at our school or through our website.

Best wishes

Stuart Glascott
