Entrance Policy for the International Baccalaureate Diploma and TES High School Diploma (16 -18 years) Curriculum

| The following procedures apply: |

| 1. |
An application form for the TES High School is completed and submitted along wih the required / requested supporting documents (see application form) |

TES reserves the right to request additional information from the student's previous school if this is deemed necessary.

| 2. |
Upon acceptance of the complete application, the following process will be followed:

|
The school will conduct assessments in the core curriculum areas of English, Mathematics and Science to ascertain the student's relative level of academic performance. English language tests may be conducted at first or second language level. Please note that assessments for on-island applicants are held each March or April for entry in the forthcoming academic year (commencing in August). Applications must be received by the 1st of March to guarantee participation in these tests.Further test dates will be arranged only if places remain available after April.

II. |
The results of the assessments will be used as a basis for selecting students for entry to the TES High School IB Diploma programme. Student performance will be compared to expected performance (for students of the same age) in the core areas. Successful candidates will be offered a place or put on the waiting list according to their levels of achievement in the assessment tests and in accordance with the TES prioritisation of places policy (http://teswww.tes.tp.edu.tw/cmsimages/ca/Documents/06-ADM-TES-001AdmissionsPolicy.pdf). The Admissions Office will contact successful candidates if places become available.

For EAL students not participating in the March / April assessment tests, one of the following levels of English Language proficiency is required to be considered for the High School IB Diploma programme:

IGCSE ESL Grade Level
|
C or above
|
IELTS
|
Level 6
|
IGCSE First Language Grade level
|
C or above
|

III. |
At any stage in the application process, an interview may be required with the Head of High School. Where necessary, consultation regarding applications includes the Director of Admissions, the Head of High School, the Deputy / Assistant Heads of British Secondary and High School Section, the EAL Coordinator and core area subject leaders.
The Head of High School shall make a final decision regarding entry.

Applications submitted during the school academic year:
- New applications for IB Year 1 may be considered until the end of the first half term of the current school year, which falls in October, if places are still available. These applications will follow the procedures outlined in this document, with assessments conducted on a needs basis as required. Applications received after this time will only be considered under exceptional circumstances.
- It is only possible for new applicants to join IB Year 2 if they meet the following criteria:
-IB Year 1 has been completed successfully in a previous school
-Subject group choices allow continuity through the second year of the IB programme
