New Primary Campus

Since the announcement by the Taipei City Government of its plans to extend Fuguo Road through the current site of the Wen Lin Road campusin Shihlin, TES has sought a permanent solution to its problem of the temporary, aging accommodation at Wen Lin Road.

Fortunately, the ROC Government kindly agreed to a favourable long term, renewable lease on a 2. hectares of land adjacent to the current site at Wen Lin Road ¡V a very convenient location for our young students and their parents.

Sansin Construction Company, the selected contractor for the new primary campus project, was appointed and the new Primary campus will be ready for opening August 2007.

The new Primary campus will accommodate up to 700 students from 3 to 11 years of age from the German, British and French Sections.

When the new Primary campus is complete, the Phase 1 and 2 buildings of the Yang Ming Shan campus will become home to the lower secondary German, British and French Sections (11 to 14 years) and the High School (14 to 18 years), thereby accommodating up to 500 students.

The three buildings currently under construction are the four storey Central Resource Area (CRA) with an underground car park and bus station; the five storey Junior Wing; and the two storey Infant Wing with enclosed playground. Until we are ready to build our proposed Sports Centre in a couple of years¡¦ time, the area in the south of the site will be a turfed sports and playing field.

The contractor has finished the concrete structural work in December 2006. The size and shape of the buildings are clear now. For the following five months the construction work will concentrate on exterior finishings along with interior MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) work.

TES is preparing a comprehensive strategic plan for the relocation of classes and fit-out of rooms and facilities at both the new campus and within the two buildings at Yang Ming Shan as they will become occupied exclusively by secondary students. There is much on-going consultation over the future use of our buildings as there will be some quite significant changes as to how we operate our campuses.

With all that needs to be accomplished during June, July and August 2007 it will be very reminiscent of 2002 when we prepared for the opening of the High School in Phase 2. As we enter into the final stages of what has become a four year project to find and secure land, design, build and finance a new school, everyone in the school community feels proud that quite soon TES will have first class facilities for our primary children in the new campus.
