Dear Parents

Enhancing our communications, both in and outside of TES, is one of our 7 key goals under our strategic plan “Strategy 2018”. We are very pleased that to help take this area of the strategic plan forward we have been able to employ our new Information Technology Senior Manager Mr. Mike Yung. Most recently Mike worked for German Swiss International School in Hong Kong and previous to this he was the co-founder of Qualpha Solutions (Asia) Ltd which specialized in customized IT solutions for schools.

Mike has joined Taipei European School at a critical point in time as our school continues to grow and our information management systems struggle to keep pace. Mike and the IT team have therefore undertaken a complete overhaul of our IT systems and are now ready to launch a completely new ICT “Portal”, or internet gateway, in and out of our school. Affectionately nicknamed TESmile, this new portal will bring together the wealth of information we have for; reporting and assessment, student data, email, central information storage, payments, accounts and the like, under one common and custom designed network.  

Parents who were with us last year will remember in most cases using “QSWeb” to log onto the school website to book your parent teacher conferences. This system is an example of how a “portal” actually works in a school like TES. The new TESmile portal will be available for parents to use in the next few weeks in time for our TES wide parent conferences in October and November.  

Parents will receive specific information from your respective Heads of Section about section specific parent teacher meetings / conferences shortly. At this time you will also be provided with a unique logon and password to the new portal.  

I know you will join me in thanking Mike and the IT team for this exciting new initiative and in particular the amount of work which has gone into streamlining our data information management. This will indeed be a tremendous positive step towards achieving at least part of this important Strategy 2018 goal.
