Welcome from Chair of Board of Directors

Welcome and thank you for your interest in Taipei European School. This website will hopefully assist you in learning a little more about our school and the wonderful but unique educational programmes we have on offer for our 1,300 students. TES is distinctly different from other international schools in that we operate four independent sections under the one European roof. Our German, French and British sections offer the choice of their three different European national curricula for students aged 3 to 14 years. Our High School allows all three sections to merge together and for the first two years students undertake the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) or French and German co-qualifications. The final two years of High School culminate in the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

Our growing reputation and image in Taiwan and across Asia has seen demand for places reach record levels, particularly in our High School. We are hugely proud of the fact that our graduating students consistently win places in universities that are among the best across the world.
We firmly believe that our students develop admirable qualities of cultural understanding, compassion, empathy and tolerance through their daily life at school which is focused on its mission of “promoting European culture and values within the context of Taiwanese society.” Our mission also has a strong emphasis on “educational excellence” where we encourage students to strive to develop to their full potential - not just academically but in a much broader sense through the many cultural, community, artistic, sporting and charity activities that feature prominently in our extra-curricular calendar.

Wherever possible, TES has an inclusive philosophy and has dedicated language and special needs support programmes for students, where appropriate. TES continues to receive very positive and encouraging reports from inspection agencies from Germany, Britain and France and in 2011 we were granted full accreditation from two of the world's leading accreditation bodies: the Council of International Schools (CIS) based in Europe and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) based in the USA. This joint accreditation provides further evidence to our stakeholders of our commitment to excellence.
We are very proud of our status as a not for profit organisation as all funds generated at the school are turned back into supporting the school's further development of teaching and learning. At TES we pride ourselves on the personal knowledge and experience we have with each of our children and their families.
We feel this “school as a village rather than a city” approach is best for our students as in a village everyone knows each other and works together for the benefit of the entire community. For this reason, enrolment growth will be carefully controlled into the future so that we will always be in a position to personally know and support each of our students.

We are extremely grateful for the support and commitment from our Board of Directors, mostly kindly and ably led by Dr. CV Chen, and from our various Governors and parents groups across our school. Local and international companies and individuals have also played a major part through donations and sponsorship of our capital development projects. We thank them and all our sponsors for their continued support.

Once again welcome to our school and I trust that you will enjoy learning more about the exciting and rewarding opportunities that exist as a student, parent, staff member, alumnus or friend.

Best Regards

Dr. Allan Weston
